The complete JavaScript developer: MEAN stack zero-to-hero

Build full stack JavaScript apps with the MEAN stack, using Node.js, AngularJS, Express and MongoDB | taught by Full Stack Training

Course description

Learn all of the different aspects of full stack JavaScript development using the MEAN stack. We're not talking about any generators or MEAN frameworks here, we're talking about a full understanding of MongoDB, Express, AngularJS and Node.js. Throughout this course we'll show you how to use each of these technologies, and how to use them together.

I'm currently taking a ten week immersive course on JavaScript using the MEAN stack. I've looked through a lot of online tutorials and for the MEAN stack and this is the best start covering the Node and Express portions.

Build Great JavaScript Applications using MongoDB, Express, AngularJS and Node.js

The overall aim of the course is to enable you to confidently build all different types of application using the MEAN stack.

To do this, the course is divided into four sections, each section focusing on a different goal. The four sections all work together building a full application, with an overall outcome of showing how to architect and build complete MEAN applications.

The breakdown of sections looks like this:

  1. By the end of section one you will be able to set up a web-server using Node.js and Express, to listen for requests and return responds.
  2. By the end of section 2 you will be able to design NoSQL databases and work with MongoDB from the command line and from Node and Express.
  3. After section 3 you will be able to design and build robust REST APIs using Node.js, Express and MongoDB, following industry best practices.
  4. By the end of section four you will be able to build high quality AngularJS single page applications (SPAs), following industry best practices.
  5. When you have finished with section five you will able to add authentication to the MEAN stack, enabling users to log in and manage sessions.

This is really awesome. Simon (instructor) takes a great deal of time to explain various things about the code which makes sure we understand everything. There are no shortcuts anywhere or copy-paste of code. A lot of effort is taken to type every single line of code during the lessons and all the concepts are explained in depth. Thank you Simon for this wonderful course.

Along the way there are various activities, so you can be has hands on as you like. You'll get the most out of the course if you follow along and code as you go, but if you want to speed through it the source code is supplied with each video (where relevant).

What are the requirements?

  • You should be familiar with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • You will need a text editor (like Sublime Text) or IDE (like Webstorm)
  • You will need a computer on which you have the rights to install new software

What am I going to get from this course?

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Build full stack applications in JavaScript using the MEAN technologies
  • Architect MEAN stack applications from scratch
  • Design and build RESTful APIs using Node.js, Express and MongoDB
  • Create and use MongoDB databases
  • Develop modular, maintainable Single Page Applications using AngularJS

With this course you will also get:

  • Five tests with a whole bunch of questions about all of the technologies
  • A discussion forum where you can ask questions if you get stuck or something doesn't work
  • Links to download the source code and a GitHub repo
  • Several activities to complete
  • A certificate of completion when you've done all of the sections and passed all of the tests

What is the target audience?

This course is meant for anyone who wants to start building full stack JavaScript applications in Node.js, AngularJS, Express and MongoDB. It starts from the basic concepts of each technology, so user's experienced in a particular area will be able to speed through these sections. This course assumes you have some JavaScript knowledge, and does not teach JavaScript itself.

I learned so much from the very first videos. He goes in depth without overwhelming you or assuming any knowledge beforehand without at the same time pulling any punches or babying his audience. I'm enjoying this so far!

Absolutely fabulous!!

The course is rightly paced and with enough knowledge for someone having no background on MEAN stack to come up to a level where he/she can work on medium to complex project with little to no supervision.

I couldn't stop spending my time learning in FST

Hi dear Simon and Tamas let me first give you a big Thank You for creating such a great course. I have to say to those who always want to remember the important things after learning, the quiz system is Gold! although , I can recommend to the founders for thinking about adding interactive code challenges as these kinds of tools are so popular today and there are very very effective in learning. generally speaking, everything was in an acceptable state and depth but about angularjs, it could be more managed, like chapters before, there also could be some attached PDF files and snippets , cheat sheets and such a things to help the learner more to understand the concept. I prefer something like after-hero course! because frankly speaking it's not the hero state, it was zero to 70% specially about mongoDB waiting for new courses , thank you so much, I've had a great time with your course.

Systematic and Well Structured Mean Stack project

I really enjoyed developing the project along with the instructors. Yes..I really MEAN it!! Very easy to follow . Though Angular.js videos are a bit tough to understand real concepts for a beginner, overall really enjoyed the learning plan. Thanks a lot
